‘Sh*t Politicians Say’ Video Arrives Ahead of Republican Debate

The latest political parody — Sh*t Politicians Say — just hit YouTube, keeping the unstoppable Sh*t [Insert Stereotype] Say meme alive for yet another day.

Go ahead and bemoan the meme all you want; you’re still going to watch the clip. And you should because it has multiple purposes. Other than trying to induce laughs, the video serves as an advertisement disguised as a meme for Americans Elect. Let’s call it a meme-vertisement for the the group’s online political campaign.

Americans Elect dubs itself the “first nonpartisan nomination,” which means it wants to provide Americans a third candidate — not just a Democrat or Republican — to vote for during the 2012 presidential race.

Sh*t Politicians Say landed just hours before Thursday night’s Republican presidential debate and stars actor Joe Leon. In true political fashion, his character rattles off common jargon heard from people running for office.

Do these ring a bell? Moral fiber, family values, trust me, three-point plan, earmarks, tough question, children are our future, Washington outsider, jobs, my opponent — all sound familiar.

Taking jabs at politicians is nothing new. For example, this presidential election season alone has spawned funny memes poking fun at Rick Santorum’s sweater vests and Rick Perry’s controversial “Strong” commercial.

Bonus: Political Gaffes Caught on Tape

Speaking of Rick Perry, remember his “Oops” memory lapse during a debate in November? That moment and these nine other gaffes have been etched into our mind’s eye for better or worse.

Rick Perry: "Oops"

2012 presidential candidate Rick Perry drew a massive blank Wednesday night during CNBC’s “Your Money, Your Vote” GOP debate. On stage in Michigan, Perry attempted to rattle off three federal government agencies he would eliminate, but failed to remember number three: “Commerce, education and the … uh, um, what’s the third one there. Let’s see … ” The mental block lasted about 40 more seconds before Perry uttered, “Oops.”

FedEx Guy Destroys PC Monitor, But Not All FedEx Guys Are Like That [VIDEO]

After you watch this video, you might have a bad taste in your mouth about FedEx delivery personnel. But I think this guy is an aberration, an outlier against a corps of FedEx employees that I’ve noticed are second to none.

Before we get to the praise of FedEx and its legion of delivery people, take a look at the nonchalance with which this dweeb tosses a fragile package over that fence, not even aware enough of his surroundings to realize there’s a security camera almost poking him in the face. The maker of this YouTube video said the thrown package contained a computer monitor, which was broken by this rough treatment.

A pox on all those who treat our delicate and valuable packages this way. As a consumer electronics product reviewer, I know all too well that the arrival condition of a package can often mean the difference between success or failure for me on any given day.

That’s why I would like to stand up for FedEx as this video continues to make the rounds of the blogosphere, its harsh message spreading like wildfire as this video explodes into viral status (with 2,981,920 views as of this writing), generally gathering negative comments about FedEx and its personnel along the way.

There’s a FedEx guy who regularly delivers fragile packages here to our Midwest Test Facility, and he treats every box and envelope as if it were full of spectacularly fragile Fabergé eggs. He is so kind and friendly, I know him by name, and he knows me by name as well. He’s always businesslike, professional and graceful with packages and his greetings. We’ve had similarly positive experiences with FedEx delivery personnel at our New York headquarters.

Of course, our experience is anecdotal, and by no means is a representative sample of FedEx delivery personnel worldwide. However, all FedEx delivery people I’ve dealt with — ever — have been of the highest caliber, so they can’t be all bad, or even close. So as we watch this viral video of this FedEx employee who by now might be working elsewhere (or not at all), let’s keep in mind that even the best companies can have awful employees.

As an aside, I’d also like to endorse motion-activated security cameras such as the one used in this video — probably a Logitech Alert security system like the one we have installed here — catching people and animals doing things they wouldn’t otherwise do if they realized they were being watched. Besides the cameras’ security value, they’re just plain fun to play with. And, they never fail to show us when our intrepid FedEx guy is on his way, which for us is always a positive experience.

Gary Vaynerchuk: Why ROI Matters for Social Media [VIDEO]

Entrepreneur and author Gary Vaynerchuk thinks so-called social media experts are “clowns” — what really matters is driving ROI. According to Vaynerchuk, who is the author of best-selling business books Crush It and The Thank You Economy, too many companies are hiring 22-year-olds to manage social media strategies simply because they’re from a generation that grew up with pervasive digital media.

“Your 22-year-old did not use Facebook the last three years to do business,” said Vaynerchuk. “He did it to, like, look at chicks’ bikini pictures.”

Watch the interview to find out what qualities Vaynerchuk prizes when it comes to social media expertise.

Behind the Brand is hosted by Bryan Elliott. Stay tuned to Mashable every Wednesday for new episodes.

Cashmore touched on Facebook‘s frictionless sharing capabilities. “Any action on the web can be automatically shared to your Facebook profile,” he explained. The audience (and the #MediaSummit chatter) especially buzzed when Cashmore talked about flexible displays and bendable device screens, one of several items on his own personal wishlist.

How To Sell a 2000 Corolla Like a Boss [VIDEO]

Each day, Mashable highlights one noteworthy YouTube video. Check out all our viral video picks.

You had me at: “Do you need a reliable, sexy vehicle to get you to the renaissance fair?” This home-made, surprisingly slick car ad comes from Clark Olson Media, a media company with a clear sense of humor. Clark Olson Media submitted the video as part of a video car review contest for Kelly Blue Book, a car retailer.

We’re not entirely sure if this video actually makes us want to buy a 2000 Corolla, but it certainly makes us want to give Olson a high-five. At this point, he might not need it. The video, released in mid-June, has picked up more than 200,000 views. Maybe it’s the rocking funk music, or the way he keeps saying Corrroooollaaaa, or the way that … no, it’s definitely the way he says “Corolla.”

Halloween Google Doodle Features Madcap Timelapse Video

You know there’s something significant going on when Google creates one of its whimsical “doodles” on its home page, and Halloween is no exception. Watch what happens.

[Spoiler alert] In case you can’t see it where you are, this year (in some countries), there’s a time-lapse video showing some of the most gigantic pumpkins in the world, going through a metamorphosis from blobs of orange to art as night falls.

Here’s how the Googlers describe the making of this kooky video on the official Google blog:

To celebrate Halloween this year, the doodle team wanted to capture that fascinating transformation that takes place when carving a pumpkin. Instead of picking up a few pumpkins from the grocery store, however, we decided to work on six giant pumpkins, specially delivered from nearby Half Moon Bay (some weighing well over 1,000 pounds). What you see is a timelapse video of the approximately eight hours we spent carving in the middle of our Mountain View, Calif. campus.

Watch the video of this Halloween Google doodle — or go to Google.com to experience the doodle for yourself.

Disney to Re-release 4 Hit Animated Movies in 3D

lion king image

Disney is planning to re-release a cadre of it’s most popular and beloved animated films in 3D.

The decision followed close on the heels of the re-release of the Lion King in 3D. That film is close to crossing the $80 million mark, according to Disney.

While $80 million may not seem like much — Pixar’s Up made more than $730 million — it’s a ton of cash considering the studio’s minimal investment and the fact that most people have already seen the movie.

The extra cash in-hand has helped greenlight at least four other films including Beauty and the Beast (Jan. 31, 2012), Finding Nemo (Sept. 14, 2012), Monsters, Inc. (Jan. 18, 2013) and The Little Mermaid (Sept. 13, 2013).

Cynics will be quick to call this a money-grab if the films are simply ported to 3D. The Lion King re-release coincided with a Blu-ray version, which included bonus features such as a “bloopers reel.” Disney is staying as optimistic as possible about continued success through the rest of its 3D adaptations.

“Great stories and great characters are timeless, and at Disney we’re fortunate to have a treasure trove of both,” says Alan Bergman, president of The Walt Disney Studios. “We’re thrilled to give audiences of all ages the chance to experience these beloved tales in an exciting new way with 3D – and in the case of younger generations, for the first time on the big screen.”

What do you think: are these videos must-sees for new and old fans, or is it just a way to shake out some more dollars?
